So you’ve picked up your ABC Motorhome RV rental and are heading to the spectacular Denali and beyond. But where are you going to park your home on wheels along the way? Luckily there are several fun options to make the most of your trip up the Parks Highway.
The Parks Highway is the 362-mile, two-lane paved road that runs from Anchorage to Fairbanks directly through Denali National Park and Preserve. It offers some of the greatest scenery in the state, the ability to view wildlife at many places, and a crossing of the Alaska Range of mountains. Travelers will have many options for places to camp with their rental RV, but here are a few options.
South Rolly Campground – Nancy Lake
Just outside of Wasilla, campers can stop at Nancy Lake State Recreation Area. The site offers lakes, wetlands, and forests that are home to many birds and beavers. The 98 campsites have access to water and restrooms. The whole family can enjoy boating, fishing, or just walking through nature. Sites are $15 per day.
Talkeetna Camper Park – Talkeetna
Talkeetna is known as the gateway to Denali National Park. The community offers some of the best views of the mountain and a lot of fun. There are a few homey restaurants and even a local brewery to pass the time. The Talkeetna Camper Park has 35 spaces and access to electricity, hot showers, and even laundry. Spots range from $40 to $45 per day.
Riley Creek Campground – Denali National Park and Preserve
There are several RV campground options in Denali National Park and Preserve, but one of the closest to the Parks Highway is Riley Creek Campground. It’s fairly wooded and offer trails that run directly to the Denali Visitors Center. Amenities include laundry, a dump station, and a camp store. Fees run from $15 to $30 and you will need to pay the park entrance fees as well.
Riverview RV Park – Fairbanks
After “roughing it” in Denali Park, you might be craving a little more luxury when arriving in Fairbanks. Riverview RV Park is just the ticket. This 160 site campground offers full electricity and water hook-ups as well as cable TV and WiFi. There is a three hole pitch’n’putt golf course and a lovely deck along the Chena River. It is highly recommended to make reservations ahead of time as this campground is very popular.
